Lisa B and the Reverberant Band

Saturday, November 16, 7:30-10 at Bird & Beckett

Lisa B (Lisa Bernstein) celebrates the release of her seventh record, Reverberant: Poems & Music Accompanying Lisa B’s spoken and sung verse will be Ben Flint and Scott R. Looney, both on  piano & keyboards; Marcus Shelby, bass; and Isaac Schwartz, drums.

The new record’s theme of reverberation links jazz stories with tales of spiritual self-realization. In a departure from Lisa B’s previous albums  – which feature her jazz vocals and poetic rap in original songs and standards – Reverberant is grounded in her free-verse poems, spiced with singing and musical compositions created with stellar Bay Area musicians. Many of the poems appeared in esteemed literary journals, such as Kenyon Review. The evening’s performance will also include tunes from Lisa B’s 2018 record, I Get A Kick: Cole Porter Reimagined, as well as other fan favorites, such as “Joe Williams Died Walking/Every Day I Have the Blues” and “Holiday in Oakland.”

This is a Guaranteed Fair Wage Fund event where each musician will be paid $150 in advance, regardless of ticket sales. Jazz in the Neighborhood makes this possible by subsidizing 40% of their pay. Bird & Beckett and the Jazz Philanthropists Union guarantees the rest. The $20 cover charge at the door is a crucial component of that guarantee, though a sliding scale is available to those who need avail themselves of it. For tickets and other information, please contact Bird & Beckett.
