Akira Tana and Otonawa

Wednesday, October 10, 7:30 pm at California Jazz Conservatory’s Rendon Hall

Akira Tana and Otonowa play eye-opening, culture-bending Japanese jazz, bringing Tanaโ€™s consummate musical mastery into congruence with his deep Japanese cultural roots. Otonowa, meaning โ€œsound circle,โ€ features Tana on drums, Art Hirahara (piano), Masaru Koga (woodwinds, percussion) and Noriyuki โ€œKenโ€ Okada (bass). This brotherhood of Japanese-American jazz luminaries tours and records to raise funds and spirits for the survivors of the 2011 Japanese tsunami. This appearance by Otonowa will also be a celebration of their third recording release, โ€œAi San Sanโ€ (Loveโ€™s Radience) on VegaMusic-USA. Tsunami survivor and trumpeter from Otsuchi, Takahiro Dai will be featured as a guest artist.

Jazz in the Neighborhood presents its Wednesday night series at CJC with financial support from AFM Musicians Union Local 6.
