Akira Tana and Otonawa

Wednesday, October 10, 7:30 pm at California Jazz Conservatory’s Rendon Hall

Akira Tana and Otonowa play eye-opening, culture-bending Japanese jazz, bringing Tana’s consummate musical mastery into congruence with his deep Japanese cultural roots. Otonowa, meaning “sound circle,” features Tana on drums, Art Hirahara (piano), Masaru Koga (woodwinds, percussion) and Noriyuki “Ken” Okada (bass). This brotherhood of Japanese-American jazz luminaries tours and records to raise funds and spirits for the survivors of the 2011 Japanese tsunami. This appearance by Otonowa will also be a celebration of their third recording release, “Ai San San” (Love’s Radience) on VegaMusic-USA. Tsunami survivor and trumpeter from Otsuchi, Takahiro Dai will be featured as a guest artist.

Jazz in the Neighborhood presents its Wednesday night series at CJC with financial support from AFM Musicians Union Local 6.
