Rhonda Benin and North Beach Rhythm

To honor Louis Armstrong’s birthday, vocalist Rhonda Benin is joined by North Beach Rhythm: Si Perkoff on piano, Dwayne Ramsey on saxophone, Larry Leighton trombone, Jim Gammon on trumpet, Joe McKinley on bass, Larry Vann on drums, and Pete Devine on drums.

Formerly known as Big Money In Jazz, North Beach Rhythm was formed by Mal Sharpe over forty years ago. They performed weekly at Sausalito’s No Name Bar and North Beach’s famed Enrico’s restaurant. This aggregation of traditional players pay homage to jazz innovator Louis Armstrong and his early form of jazz.  Join them on an open dance floor as they celebrate Louis Armstrong’s birthday with an afternoon of great traditional jazz, including tunes like “A Kiss To Build A Dream On,” “Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans,” and “Basin Street Blues.”

Jazz in the Neighborhood’s Emerging Artist will be Max Cope, a drummer who fronts a quartet that includes Max Nierlich on trumpet, pianist Isaiah Harwood, and bassist Aidan McCarthy. Max is currently a degree student at the California Jazz Conservatory and studies with Alan Hall.

Noted jazz historian and jazz musician Richard Hadlock will give a pre-concert talk.

Jazz in the Neighborhood is co-presenting this event to provide financial support for the musicians, but will not be receiving any money from ticket sales. Advance tickets are $15 and $20 day of show.
