Clairdee — A Love Letter to Lena album release celebration

Sunday, March 8, 7 pm at Freight & Salvage

Vocalist Clairdee’s inspiring new album honors the extraordinary life of African-American singer, actor, and activist Lena Horne. It integrates inventive arrangements of songs by Billy Strayhorn and contemporary composers with compelling storytelling — examining Horne’s personal struggles and pivotal role in changing attitudes about race and America’s stereotypical view of African-Americans.

Mario Guarneri, trumpet/flugelhorn — Erik Jekabson, trumpet/flugelhorn — Randy Vincent, guitar — Doug Miller, bass — Akira Tana, drums

The trumpet-bass-drums quartet along with guitar will perform two sets of improvised music in various combinations, including both original compositions and jazz standards.

Presented by Berp & Co., Jazz in the Neighborhood is pleased to recommend this event where each musician will receive guaranteed minimum compensation of $150 (JITN’s scale).

The venue is a new listening space above Tam Commons, with  food and drink available downstairs in the brew pub. Come listen to creative Bay Area jazz artists and support a new listening room in Marin!

The George Cotsirilos Quartet

Jazz in the Neighborhood is pleased to recommend this event where each musician will receive guaranteed minimum compensation of $150 (JITN’s scale).    

The ensemble is a group of accomplished veteran musicians, featuring George Cotsirilos on guitar, Keith Saunders on piano, Robb Fisher on bass and Ron Marabuto on drums. They released the widely acclaimed CD Mostly In Blue in 2018. which spent over three months on the national Jazz Weekly top 50 radio charts, rising to number 15, and was named by Downbeat Magazine as one of the 100 best CD’s of 2018. The group performs primarily original, modern jazz compositions and selections from the jazz cannon. For more information, see the venue listing.

Job Opportunity: Marketing & Media Coordinator

Jazz in the Neighborhood seeks a self-reliant and reliable person to market its events and other programs. Duties include composing a weekly email newsletter (currently via Mailchimp); maintaining the email list; managing the Facebook page; submitting events for calendar listings; writing and sending press releases; website updates; and other related activities.

In addition to being dependable and a self-starter, qualifications include facility with social media, ability to navigate various media websites, basic Photoshop skills, familiarity with html code, a good graphic design aesthetic, command of proper English spelling and grammar, attention to detail, and ability to use Google docs and sheets. Interest and knowledge of the Bay Area jazz scene is highly desirable.

This is a part-time hourly position, which should average about 5 hours per week, but not more than 30 hours per month. Work will be done via telecommute, although attendance at occasional staff meetings in the Berkeley area may be requested. Reports to the JITN Administrator. Office space, equipment, and software are not provided.
