George Brooks Trio

George Brooks and long-time collaborators, bassist Kai Eckhardt and pianist Frank Martin, perform an evening of newย compositions and favorites from Brooks’s extensive catalog.

Georgeย Brooksย is a saxophonist and composer, acclaimed for successfully bridging the worlds of jazz and Indian classical music, founding seminal Indian fusion groups likeย Summitย with Zakir Hussain,ย and Bombay Jazzย with Ronu Majumdar and Larry Coryell, and theย Raga Bop Trioย with Steve Smith and Prasanna. Kai Eckhardtย appears on Brooks’ย Summitย andย Spirit and Spiceย recordings and has performed with Brooks, Steve Smith and Zakir Hussain in the US, Europe and Asia.ย Northern California native Frankย Martinย is the pianist on George Brooksโ€™, Spirit and Spice recording and has performed with Brooks throughout the Bay Area. He has performed with an incredible range of artists, from Lady Gaga to Stevie Wonder.

Emerging Artistย Amelie Hinman will be featured in this performance. She is a hand percussionist who has studied with Carlos Caro, Jake Nissly, Herwig Steiger, and Gerhardt Reiter.

Jazz in the Neighborhood presents its Wednesday night series at CJC with financial support from AFM Musicians Union Local 6.
