Sheldon Brown/Michael Wilcox/Alan Hall Trio
Weds., August 29, 7:30 pm, Rendon Hall at the California Jazz Conservatory
The Sheldon Brown/Michael Wilcox/Alan Hall Trio follows and extends the tradition of Sonny Rollins, one of the earliest proponents of the tenor/bass/drums trio format. The trioย performs their own work and a wide variety of music that has interested them over the years, from Brazillian choro, Bulgarian music, and the music of Herbie Nichols to pieces adapted from the classical repertoire by composers like Brahms, Faure and Machaut.
Composer and woodwind multi-instrumentalist Sheldon Brownย has been a bright light in the Bay Area creative music scene for over 30 years. ย He is a founding member of Electric Squeezebox Orchestra and Clarinet Thing, and has led the Sheldon Brown Group since 1984. Bassist Michael Wilcoxย has toured, performed, recorded and taught extensively, appearing on over 30 CDs, along with television, commercial and radio work. Heโs played with Pickle Family Circus, The San Francisco Mime Troupe, and the Transcendental Theatre Company, and has taught in the Jazz Department at San Jose State University and taught at the California Jazz Conservatory. Alan Hall
is the composer, band leader and drummer of Ratatet, a neo-jazz sextet that features bassoon, trombone and vibraphone. Heโs worked with Art Lande, Paul McCandless, Kai Eckhardt, Ed Simon, Geoffrey Keezer, Kenny Washigton, and many others.
