Zan Stewart Quartet

Sunday, October 6, 4:30-6:30 pm at Bird & Beckett

Zan Stewart, saxophone — Keith Saunders, piano — Peter Barshay, bass — Ron Marabuto, drums

The band will be playing engaging originals and gems from the jazz and pop repertoires from the 1930s through 1960s, music that swings, that has a feel good vibe and that is listener-friendly. Selections will range from Zan Stewart’s originals such as “Gals ‘Round the ‘Hood” and “One Family” to classics like “You Stepped Out of Dream,” “Second Balcony Jump,” and “Stella by Starlight,” the latter with a unique, vibrant beat. All told, mainstream jazz with that feel good vibe. Zan will also offer stories from the jazz lore and from a life spent in jazz.

This is a Guaranteed Fair Wage Fund event where each musician will be paid $150 in advance, regardless of ticket sales. Jazz in the Neighborhood makes this possible by subsidizing 40% of their pay. Bird & Beckett and the Jazz Philanthropists Union guarantees the rest. The $20 cover charge at the door is a crucial component of that guarantee, though a sliding scale is available to those who need avail themselves of it. For tickets and other information, please contact Bird & Beckett.
