Brown, Wilcox, Bowman Trio

Saturday, January 18, 7:30 pm at Bird & Beckett

Saxophonist Sheldon Brown, six-string bassist Michael Wilcox, and drummer Bryan Bowman continue in the tradition of Sonny Rollins, one of the earliest proponents of the tenor/bass/drums format. As a trio, they explore a wide variety of music that has interested them over the years—from Brazilian choro, Bulgarian music, and the music of Herbie Nichols to pieces adapted from the classical repertoire by composers like Brahms, Faure and Machaut.

The Brown Wilcox Bowman Trio is a unique partnership of melody, harmony and rhythm between 6 string electric bass, reeds and drums.

They explore a wide range of themes from contemporary jazz, classical music and world music influences creating dialogues that and unexpected and exciting.

This is a Guaranteed Fair Wage Fund event where each musician will be paid in advance, regardless of ticket sales. Jazz in the Neighborhood makes this possible by subsidizing 40% of their pay. Bird & Beckett and the Jazz Philanthropists Union guarantees the rest. The $20 cover charge at the door is a crucial component of that guarantee, though a sliding scale is available to those who need avail themselves of it. For tickets and other information, please contact Bird & Beckett.
